Response of the SPLM-IO to R-JMEC’s Position on South Sudan December 2024 Elections

This is a response letter from the Chairman of the Sudan People's Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO) to the Reconstituted Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (R-JMEC) regarding the South Sudan December 2024 elections. The letter acknowledges the critical issues raised by R-JMEC and supports the idea of conducting a peaceful and democratic end of the Transitional Period of the Agreement. The SPLM-IO also supports the option of conducting a consensus-based election or a revision of the Roadmap through dialogue among the Peace Parties to Agreement. A mediator's presence is required to ensure the credibility of the dialogue, and there is a need to demonstrate political will on the parties' side.

The National Communication Authority (NCA) in South Sudan has issued a directive to all companies or individuals engaged in unlicensed importation, assembly, manufacturing, installation, trade in communication equipment and materials, or marketing communication equipment, materials, and systems without specifications and type approval recognized by the Authority. These businesses or services must be registered with the NCA for compliance and licensing within 30 working days. Failure to comply within 30 working days may result in penalties, including prosecution, fines, closure of businesses, or confiscation of items.
