The South Sudan National Dialogue Steering Committee is honored to present this concluding report as a summary of its activities over the last three and half years of the process. We are grateful to His Excellency, President Salva Kiir Mayardit, for having entrusted to us the leadership of this most challenging national mission.
This Report on the status of implementation of the activities of the Revitalised Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (R-ARCSS) is prepared pursuant to Chapter VII, Article 7.9 of the R-ARCSS and covers the period 1 st July to 30 September 2020. The Report highlights the most recent progress on the Pre-Transitional activities carried over after the initial formation of the Revitalised Transitional Government of National Unity (RTGoNU) on 22nd February 2020, as well as the tasks scheduled to be undertaken in the Transitional Period.
This is a report being rendered to H.E the President of the Republic by the investigation committee that was established by the Republican Order No 15/2020 to investigate the incident that took place in Gumbo Shirkat on 3 rd June 2020 and in which six (6) people were killed and eight (8) others were wounded.
Examining Government Response to the COVID-19 Crisis: Success, Failure, and Lesson Learned for Future Management of Public Health Crisis in South Sudan.
The 2008 Sudan Population and Housing Census is the 5th Sudan Population and Housing Census conducted, and one of the most important censuses in the history of Sudan. It is based on the comprehensive peace agreement. It provides hope for Sudanese people to build a new Sudan, with a fair share in power, resources, services and development. To achieve these goals a population census with a high accuracy and a full coverage is a necessity.
The Southern Sudan Center for Census, Statistics and Evaluation launched 2010 statistical yearbook in Juba on Wednesday. The Chairman of the Commission, Isaiah Chol Aruai, said that the book is a reference document which compiles all the available data about southern Sudan. He said that it also provides information about food security assessment in the region. Speaking during the launch, southern Sudan's Vice President, Riak Machar Teny, said the yearbook can enable institutions to measure their progress and shortcomings effectively. He added said the book shows that a large portion of the population faces food insecurity, which indicates challenges facing southern Sudan. He urged the Commission to present its report to the Council of Ministers in order to help the government to formulate policies appropriately.
The Sudan Household Health Survey 2nd round (SHHS2) was carried out in 2010 by the Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH) and the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) rep-resenting the Government of National Unity (GoNU), and the Ministry of Health (MoH) together with the Southern Sudan Commission for Census, Statistics and Evaluation (SSCCSE), both representing the Government of Southern Sudan (GoSS) in partner-ship with the UN agencies and in collaboration with several ministries and institutions such as the Ministry of International Cooperation, Ministry of Education, and Ministry of Social welfare and women and child affairs, National Population Council, National Council for Child Welfare (N COW) and National Water Corporation. Financial and technical support was provided by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), the Pan Arab Project for Family Health (PAPFAM), the World Food Pro-gramme (WFP), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the World Health Organization (WHO), and the United States Agency for International Development (USAir)), UNDP and JICA.
The recently revitalized peace process promises to offer new opportunities in 2019 for South Sudan’s women, men and children. However, the cumulative effects of years of conflict, violence and destroyed livelihoods have left more than 7 million people or about two thirds of the population in dire need of some form of humanitarian assistance and protection in 2019 – the same proportion as in 2018. While the situation is no longer escalating at a rapid speed, the country remains in the grip of a serious humanitarian crisis.
